Oh, Baby Jesus!- A Zany Look at Matthew Chapter 1

So today I decided to look into the book of Matthew. I started from the beginning and found that list leading down from Abraham through King David all the way down through Jesus. Why is this gobbledygook important? Well, people were expecting the messiah to come from David's family line, and they got just that. In fact, we have this list as evidence! It may seem like unnecessary paperwork now, but back then, that was a big deal!

"Mary? That's a good idea!"
"WHAT? No! Not a good idea! Bad!"

The writer segwayed it nicely into how the shebang went down. So Joseph saw this pretty 'lil lady named Mary, and Joseph thought "Mary? That's a good idea!" So they were going to have a wedding and everything would be hunky-dory! But uh-oh, mary was pregnant that wasn't good for Joseph's image to get married to a girl if she was already pregnant! (Imagine how awkward that would be! People be asking "y'all already going at it?" and he'd have to say "no, it came like this" and they be like "whaaaaaat?")

 So Joseph wanted to break up the wedding but do it quietly by trying to shrug it off like it was never a thing. But then one night while he was sleeping an Angel of The Lord met Joseph in his dream and said to him:

"Wait, if this is a dream, does that mean I can fly, too!?"
"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:20-21)








Then Joseph did as the Angel asked and then a Jesus was born! Ain't that neat? Look, the boy can't even talk yet and this Jesus guy is already causing a whole lot of ruckus. Let's see how this plays out in chapter 2!

Some time after the devil left after tempting Jesus, He heard that John, the guy that baptized him, got arrested. What? No way! I thought John was a good guy! He was, but there were mean people didn't like what he was saying, so some people who thought they were doing good arrested him. In other words, it wasn't his fault. When Jesus heard this had happened, he left Judea and returned to the place where he grew up, Galilee. He first went to his hometown Nazareth, then moved to Capernaum. From then on he began to preach "Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." Hey, that's the same thing that John said! It sure was, and that was only the beginning of his ministry.
